2. Biological control of Dactylopius coccus in Tigray, Ethiopia. Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores, Universidad de Guadalajara, Adigrat University, Mekelle University.

Dactylopius coccus (carmine cochineal) becomes a pest in Tigray, Ethiopia destroying opuntia cactus plants; currently we are working to find in Mexico natural enemies of this insect to regulate its populations.

3. Cactus Project. Michael Tcehnology (Fresno, California) www.mtco.org, Universidad de Guadalajara, Unión Nacional de Productores de Tuna, Nopal y Maguey.

Michael Technology has now entered into a project to research the use of cactus to supplement feed for goats. There are many countries already using cactus to feed camels, cattle, sheep, and goats in countries where the usual feed is not available or very scarce. We are feeding our small herd cactus pads (shredded by a machine purchased from Mexico), and the mill from the seed which we are extracting oil from for our Opuntia oil. These are supplemented with alfalfa and molasses. This project began only this year.
